Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil (Sparta)

A nonarcheological museum that we visited while in the Peloponnese was the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparta. The museum shows the culture and technology of the olive and olive production. I took pictures of the manufacturing parts, but the museum discussed how olives and olive oil were a part of much more in the lives of the Greeks including worship, folklore, athleticism, nutrition, cosmetics, and medicine.
The museum.

A recreation of a horse drawn olive press.

Olive press

Another olive press.

This one makes olive soap.
The pictures that follow are the different types of olives presses used throughout the years.

Jars that stored olives and olive oil

A store across from the museum called 300. I guess this is Sparta.
