In addition to yesterday's blog sites, on our second day in Crete we also went to Malia where there is a Palace and Quartier Mu and to Azoria and Kavousi-Vronda.
The Malia site dates back to 1500-1200 BCE. This is the third largest of the known Bronge Age palaces. As with many of the sites we go to the original palace was destroyed and a new palace built on top. There are remnants of both found here.
The Quartier Mu was part of the first palace and consists of two large buildings as well as workshops, courts, and paths.
Azoria is located high up on a double-peaked hill. This is the site we had to ride up to in the back of pickup trucks. The ancient city dates back to 7th-6th c BCE. I apologize there are more landscape pictures than pictures of the actual site.
Vronda is even higher up than Azoria and there a house and store rooms were found as well as tholos tombs.
