The new exhibition of the National Archaeological Museum "Odysseys" is the main commemorative event on the occasion of the 150th anniversary since the foundation of the Museum. It attempts to give an account of the adventurous journey of man through time considered from an abstract and symbolic perspective that draws its inspiration from the Homeric Odyssey. One hundred and eighty-four works that come either from the permanent exhibition or the rich in archaeological material storerooms of the Museum's Collections and six loans, three from the Epigraphic Museum and three from the Acropolis Museum, are presented.
Skylla |
Skylla was a sea-monster in the Odyssey on the opposite side of the straight from Charybdis |
A marble statue of Skylla. I think I just like her because she is part dogs. |
Group of Aphrodite, Pan, and Eros. |
Aphrodite, naked, possibly in the bath, threatens Pan with her sandal. The winged Eros appears as mediator. |
Yesterday I helped out at the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science by sorting and matching skeletal remains aka bones from an excavated grave site. That was pretty neat. We also did a trivia night last night for fun hosted by some members of the school here. Our team came in 5th. There were six teams. We were very happy to not come in last. Some of the questions they did were word plays, and I'm going to share one with you that I figured out for our team and was so proud. What one word can go before the following three words in order to make three new phrases?
__________ bottom
__________ core
__________ watch
Here's a picture of the teams gathering while you think about the possible answer. |
One more picture of the Aphrodite, Pan, and Eros just to take up more space so the answer to the above puzzle isn't seen on the screen at the same time as the puzzle itself. |
Were you able to come up with the answer?
It was apple. Apple bottom, apple core, apple watch.
I didn't come up with the answer :(
ReplyDeleteAlso, when I looked at the runner/dancer, the first thing I saw was someone doing the chicken dance! Although the head placement is a little confusing to me.
I love your captions on pictures too. It's nice to have the Melissa spin on things!
